GEORGIA WILL BE HONORED AT WORLD'S FAIR SATURDAY
SEATTLE, JUNE 6 — Georgia, the Peach Tree State, will be honored at the Seattle World's Fair Saturday, June 9, in ceremonies in the Plaza of States.
Gov. S. Ernest Vandiver and Mrs. Vandiver, heading a delegation of distinguished Georgians, will be met at Boeing Field by Washington State Gov. Albert D. Rosellini.
Miss Georgia will be here, as will the mayor of Atlanta., the head of the Georgia Department of Commerce and other outstanding Georgia citizens.
The ceremonies in the Plaza of States will begin at 11:30 a.m. with musical selections by Jackie Souders' World's Fair Band.
Invocation will be by Dr. Robert A. Thomas of Seattle's University Christian Church.
Lt. Gov. John Cherberg of the State of Washington will extend welcome to the visitors and set the stage for a flag raising by Vandiver and Rosellini.
The governors of the two states will raise the flags of the United States and the State of Georgia to places of honor and jointly rekindle the Fire Font, symbol of national unity and strength.
The band will play the Georgia State song and Seattle-area Boy Scouts will hoist the flags of the 50 United States one by one, in order of their admittance to the Union.
In a salute to the Honor State, narrator Richard Thomas will briefly recite the history of the State of Georgia and tell of its industry, agriculture and progress.
An official World's Fair welcome will be extended by Fair President Joseph E. Gandy, and response by Gov. Vandiver will follow.
The program will end with a patriotic medley by Paula Bane and selections by the band. Jack Gordon will be master of ceremonies at the program.
Georgia Day will end with an exchange of tributes and gifts at a 7 p.m. dinner at Club 21 on the Fairgrounds.
