Indiana Governor Matthew Walsh (right) and host Washington Governor Albert D. Rosellini display a replica of the plaque found at the base of the Indiana flag pole in the Plaza of the States at the Seattle World's Fair. It was Indiana Honor Day on June 8. In the background is the 600-foot Space Needle. A copy of the plaque is shown below.

A STATEMENT BY THE GOVERNOR

The busy Midwestern State of Indiana lies between the Great Lakes and the Ohio River. Indiana is one of the nation's important manufacturing states. The Calument region, which stretches along the southern end of Lake Michigan, is one of the great manufacturing centers of the world. The world's largest steel mill and one of the largest oil refineries is located in this area. Other Indiana cities turn out large quantities of transportation equipment, machinery, and food products.

The northern half of Indiana lies in the fertile corn belt of the Midwest. Great quantities of corn, rye, wheat, melons, tomatoes, soybeans and hogs are produced.

Vacationists delight in the natural beauty of Indiana. The sand dunes off Lake Michigan have long been a favorite resort. Visitors may swim, fish, and go boating in the state's many lakes and streams. Brown County's brilliant fall coloring attracts artists and nature lovers from all parts of the country.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Albert D. Rosellini, Governor of the State of Washington, do hereby designate June 8, 1962, as

STATE OF INDIANA DAY

and urge the people of Washington to extend their traditional warm hospitality to our many friends from the "Hoosier State" to the Seattle World's Fair.
