Thousands of Seattleites jammed Victory Square (University Street between 4th and 5th Avenue) to welcome Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko of Japan to Seattle. The Royal Visit, held on October 4, 1960, was held to honor the centennial of US-Japanese relations.

Royal Visit Welcome Chairman Jack Gordon of Greater Seattle, Inc., appears to "warming up" ther crowd gathered to salute the Crown Prince and Princess of Japan on their visit to Seattle. The U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard is holding flags on the ledge above the driveway.
