As the Seattle World's Fair Grounds Become The Seattle Center
A million-dollar amusement package, including three features of the Fair's Gayway, will be developed for Center visitors this coming summer.
Arrangments have been completed for eight major rides (including the popular Velare Wheel and the Wild Mouse) and eight "kiddie-size" attractions (including the Kiddie Carousel from the Fair).
The Sky Ride (below), one of the most popular features of the Fair, remains, and will also be in full operation across the grounds.
The amusement area is located in two sections, one between the Pacific Science Center and the Space Needle and the other east of the present Memorial Stadium site.
The first area will be built around a small lake in a park-like setting. Roofs, similiar in design to that on the IBM exhibit, will cover all rides, providing protection from weather as well as keeping noise confined to the rides themselves.
The rides will be connected by "arcades of lights," giving the illusion of covered pathways between the various attractions.
Other major rides include the Octopus, Eli Scrambler, Paratrooper, Tilt-a-Wheel, Rock-O-Plane and Skooter.
