As the Seattle World's Fair Grounds Become The Seattle Center
The International Fountain, spectacular production of two young Japanese architects, is being expanded for the current season, although landscaping will not be completed until 1964.
A total of 100 new nozzles are now being added, for a total of 217.
The fountain will have 16 times as many water patterns and more than twice the water pressure it had during the Fair.
Valentine and Fisher, Seattle engineering firm, prepared the design for the new nozzles and patterns.
Music for the Fountain — including a master control to coordinate water patterns, music and dramatic lighting of the fountain — was installed by Schulmerich Carillons, Inc. for the Fountain's Fair debut.
Recently the city paid Schulmerich $10,000 for the system, including several new carillon tapes to be prepared by Schulmerich for playing through the fountain's loudspeaker system.
There are 24 speakers hidden in pockets around the saucer-like rim of the Fountain.
Schulmerich will film fountain sequences after the new nozzles are attached this season — then match the music to the water movements.
