Dedication of the 2nd Lake Washington Floating Bridge, August 28, 1963

Dedication Program, city and county VIPS

Six miles long -- from Bellevue's 104th NE on the East to Seattle's Portage Bay on the West, the bridge and approaches took about 3 years to build. And from data shown later in this program, it cost a "whopping" $25 million to construct. The replacement or additional bridge still being contemplated in 2010m has a cost that is forecast in excess of $4 billion. That's roughly 160 times the cost of the original bridge and approaches.

Note the nice picture of Johnny O'Brien on this page. He came to Seattle with his brother Eddie on 1950 and with Jack Gordon's help was named basketball All Star.
