As the Seattle World's Fair Grounds Become The Seattle Center
A working craft demonstration center and sales outlet will be established this summer at Seattle Center, in recognition of the Northwest as a unique source of outstanding arts and crafts.
Represented in both areas will be a comprehensive collection of professionally created ceramics, weaving, jewelry, enamels, furniture, lighting fixtures, decorative accessories, paintings, prints and sculpture.
Acting as a nucleus for the artists and craftsmen whose works will be demonstrated and sold at the Center are the Northwest Designer-Craftsmen, the professional group whose exhibit of decorative handcrafts was a surprise hit of the World's Fair.
Working demonstrations will be shown in Center Building Seven, while Building 8 will house the retail shop, where only Northwest-handcrafted articles of professional quality, similar to those demonstrated, will be sold.
Though arrangements are presently contemplated for the 1963 season only, officials hope public response may make it possible to continue on a permanent basis, providing community recognition of the importance of arts and crafts to the cultural growth of Seattle.
