As the Seattle World's Fair Grounds Become The Seattle Center
A 200-unit exhibit of paintings and sculpture by leading Northwest artists will highlight the new Seattle Center Art Museum, located South of the Coliseum, in Building 9.
Dr. Richard E. Fuller, (right), managing director of the Seattle Art Museum, will supervise the collection, to] be taken from the museum's own pieces.
The general plan of the building, former British Pavilion during the Fair, will be retained. For example, one of the Hearst Foundation Tapestries, now owned by the museum, will be hung at the entranceway.
Also in the entranceway will be one or more large works from the museum collection — unable to be hung in the museum's Volunteer Park because of their size.
Elsewhere in the building, light-colored peg boards will line the walls, giving less trouble in hanging and arranging paintings.
Typical of the art to be shown is "White Night," (left) tempera by Mark Tobey — an example of one of his greatest series, usually referred to as "white writing." It was painted in 1942, about the same time as many of his series inspired by the Seattle Pike Place Market.
